After the partition of India, Jagtar and his family left their home in what is now Pakistan and travelled to India. Jagtar was an infant when he travelled with his mother during this most turbulent time of Indian history. They were fortunate to have family on the India side where they sought shelter. Jagtar and his mother were separated from his father and sister for months, not knowing their whereabout or whether they made it through the partition. The family was reunited in October of 1947.
